Kenyan Police Squad Ranked Among Best in Global Sniper Competition

UPDATE Saturday, February 25: Kenya Police Service Rapid Response Team ( RRT) under General Service Unit (GSU) on Friday, February 24, emerged second overall best African team at the 4th Edition Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team Championship 2023 in Dubai. 

The Kenyan team showcased an exemplary performance in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where they also ranked 16th best tactical team globally. 

NPS teams representing Kenya were drawn from the Formed Up Units under the Kenya Police Service and the Administration Police Service.

"The National Police Service congratulates our teams for their sterling and exemplary performance in the SWAT championships and wish them the very best in future," NPS wrote in a statement. 

While Special Operations Group (SOG) from the Administration Police Service was position 32 at the competition that officially ended today Friday, February 24.

In the UAE SWAT Challenge 2023, Kenyan Special Forces shocked the attendees on Monday, February 20, 2023, when their marksman tactically took off a distant target using a sniper rifle. 

The special unit then proceeded to blast a door methodically, after which they stormed into a building within seconds. 

The commentator could be heard showering the team with praise after witnessing the performance of the Kenyan Special Forces. 

"He gets the target and his colleagues can now cross into the building," a commentator acknowledged the performance of the Special Operations Group (SOG) sniper.  

In a display of brilliance, Kenyan Police Squad picked on target doors, blasted their ways, and cleared all the rooms in a barrage of firepower. 

"That is brilliant, and they have done the job in some of the shortest times in the competition," a commentator acknowledged the performance of the Special Operations Group (SOG). 

Kenya National Police Service (NPS) boasts of some of Africa's best special forces and even the world. 

These special unit include Recce Squad, Administration Police Special Force, Rapid Deployment Unit. (RDU), Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU), Security Of Government Buildings Unit (SGB) and Rural Border Patrol Unit (RBPU).

Kenyan special forces previously took on terrorists and rescued hundreds of people in past attacks, including in Westgate, Dusit 2, and at Garissa University.  

The UAE SWAT Challenge, which took place at the Dubai Police's training centre in Al Rowaiyah, brought together many special operations forces worldwide. 

It was reported that over sixty special task forces from around the globe competed in five test areas, including tactical, assault, officer rescues, tower events and obstacle courses.
