More often than not, motorists change various components of their cars such as colour and engines as they seek to upgrade the outlook and performance of their automobiles.

Kenyans.co.ke reached out to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) for step by step process required to update the changes on the logbook.

Failure to which, a motorist may find challenges proving ownership of the vehicles during police stops or car inspections.

Some of the key details that are usually detailed in the logbook include chassis number, make of car, body type, manufacture date, colour and registration date among others.

The personal details of the owner are also detailed in the document.

The Process

The process starts by actually making the changes in the garage. Once a motorist is done making the changes, for example, a colour change, they will be required to effect the changes on the log book through NTSA's Transport Integrated Management System (TIMS).

To access the TIMS account, the motorist needs to visit the website, tims(dot)ntsa(dot)go(dot)ke, and click on the registration menu.

Under the registration menu, one is then required to choose the change of particulars - apply for the change of particulars option.

"Select the vehicle then click next. Check if the original details and changes have been verified after the change of particulars inspection.

"Afterwards, select the counter collection point and the authorised persons to collect ID details, make payments for the changes and new logbook,' read the statement in part.

Inspection of the changes costs Ksh1,050 with each change made on the document costing Ksh300. For instance, if a motorist changes the engine and the colour, they will pay Ksh600.

After submitting an application, one is notified of the success of the process via SMS upon approval.

On the other hand, a new log book costs Ksh550.

Changes

The most common changes done to vehicles include colour and engine changes.

Notably, the changes and modifications are usually done and charged by various garages. Changing colours can cost around Ksh 80,000 to Ksh 250,00 depending on the quality of the paint.

Engines on the other hand are sold between Ksh150,000 to Ksh400,000 depending on the types needed. The costs for the engine could also go up given the labour cost for the mechanic.
