Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga on Thursday, March 2, lifted a lid on how President William Ruto outsmarted former Head of State Uhuru Kenyatta and Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

Oburu, who is also Raila's elder brother, explained that Ruto analysed the electoral process and used hibernative-pretence as his number one tactic.

"We previously thought that 'The System' was all about the President but we later discovered that Ruto had taken hold of other portions of "The System" including security," Oburu explained.

While Uhuru's wing thought that they had sealed all the loopholes in the electoral process, Oburu claimed that they forgot to cover gaps that were evident at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

"We chased Ruto out of the government but little did we know that he was well-rooted and got hold of several stakes within Uhuru's government. Ruto used to attend all security planning meetings and he understood how things worked.

According to the Siaya Senator, failure to take care of Chebukati was catastrophic to Raila's campaign which heavily relied on the role that the four new commissioners played.

"Chebukati then looked for professionals from Venezuela who were brought on board.

"Our plan was that, by law, Chebukati was not supposed to make decisions on his own. That is why we were comfortable when the four commissioners joined him," Oburu claimed.

However, he also revealed that he expressed his jitters with the failure to seal the perceived loopholes at IEBC, but did not do much about it since the campaign had shifted focus.

As the campaign gained momentum, Azimio placed more emphasis on developing strategies around security systems among other options which they explored.

"I personally suspected that Chebukati would fall out  with the four commissioners. Unfortunately, we did not give it a lot of attention," Oburu expressed.

Asked if former President Uhuru Kenyatta betrayed his brother Raila, Oburu explained that the former Head of State was the most genuine and honest member of Azimio's campaign team.

Oburu explained that Uhuru was at the forefront of doing everything possible to ensure that Raila clinched the Presidency, but also lamented that a number of glaring gaps were left unattended.

"Uhuru did not betray Raila! He tried his best, but Chebukati is the one who outsmarted Uhuru because Uhuru had a lot of faith in him. Uhuru was utterly shocked when Chebukati declared Ruto as the President-elect," Oburu asserted.

The Siaya Senator asked Kenyans to rally behind Raila Odinga who he promised would soon come up with another winning formula.
