Kenya Power Announces Power Interruption in 30 Nairobi Estates

The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) on Wednesday, March 8, announced power interruptions affecting 30 residential areas.

Kenya Power explained that the areas would experience blackouts on Thursday, March 9 from 9 a.m to 5 p.m to pave way for scheduled maintenance.

Estates along Kitsuru road, part of Spring Valley, Thigiri Ridge,  Rgigiri Close, Bendera Lane will experience an eight-hour-long blackout.

Other affected areas include Thome (Shepherd and Administration Police), the whole of Mugumoini, Plateau and  Nyati estate.

Residents of Mbagathi Way Flats, Sunview, Magiwa, Golf CourseNgumo Newa, Ngumo, Undugu, Madina Mosque, Kibera and Kibera Laini Saba are among those listed.

In addition, the residential areas around the Kenyatta National Hospital, Kenyatta Market, Staff House and the Royal Golf Couse will be affected by the power interruptions.

In the Vicken region, Infinity, Vicken Thirty, Gravity, Mwaki and the areas around Mahogany Furniture and Platinum Distillers will not have power for the better part of the day.

Power in estates along the Eastern Bypass, Hardware, Paroma Park, Muliro Maps and Country Club will be restored from 3 p.m .

Kenya Power undertakes scheduled maintenance to ensure seamless power supply across the country.

The law mandates the state firm to notify the public of affected areas in advance before planned blackouts to enable residents and affected businesses plan ahead.

On March 4, the country experienced a national blackout that lasted two-hours, with complete restoration  of power supply achieved after 6 hours.

Kenya Power explained that the lights out was caused by a system disturbance which resulted in the loss bulk power supply.
