Kenya Power (KPLC), on Saturday, March 4, attributed the nationwide electricity outage to system disturbance.

The utility firm apologised while promising to restore the power supply immediately.

Kenya Power noted that the outage occurred around 6:25 pm, affecting different parts of the country.

"We have lost bulk power supply to various parts of the country due to a system disturbance," KPLC's statement read in part.

"We are working to restore normalcy within the shortest time possible. An update on the restoration progress will be issued in due course," the power supplying company stated.

"We have lost bulk power supply in your area due to system disturbance. We are working towards restoration within the shortest time possible. We apologise for the inconvenience caused," the utility firm added.

The power outage alert followed a series of complaints raised by Kenyans online.

Juja, Pangani, Parklands, Lang'ata, Kangundo Road and Rongai residents were among the customers who alerted Kenya Power of the outage.

In November 2022, the country experienced another power outage. The affected areas included Nairobi, Mombasa, Busia, Kakamega, Kiambu, Makueni, Nakuru, Nyandarua, Kilifi, Kajiado, Machakos, Garissa and Eldoret.

KPLC, then, attributed the nationwide power outage to system failure. However, technicians managed to restore the power supply on time.

The power supply company adopted new transformers containing aluminium windings instead of copper to address frequent outages.

They were expected to control the quality of transformers while at the same time preventing vandalism.

KPLC further rolled out regular maintenance exercises targeting various areas in the country.
