Azimio Chief Raila Odinga on Wednesday, March 15, received backing from the Nyanza Region National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK).
Chairperson Bishop David Kodia maintained that Odinga's call for mass action was justified as he raised valid concerns from Kenyans.
Kodia claimed that part of Kenya felt sidelined by President William Ruto's administration following the recent appointments to various state offices.
"These demonstrations we are witnessing from Azimio are a way of protesting against exclusivity we are witnessing in this country where two communities tend to control all the appointments in this country," he stated.
The Bishop castigated the manner in which Ruto's government was handling the plight of Kenyans amid the tough economic times which resulted in a spike in the cost of basic commodities.
"We are calling for mutual understanding of the pains that the Kenyans are going through. We are not seeking any favour but mutual respect for each other's views.
"We urge Parliament and the executive to take immediate action not only to reduce the cost of these prices but also to stabilise prices on essential goods," Kodia remarked.
He reiterated calls for dialogue between Ruto and Raila adding that their working together would not only benefit individuals but also all Kenyans.
Kodia's call came as Azimio supporters conducted mock demonstrations ahead of the March 20 nationwide mass protests.
In Kisumu, the supporters marched towards the State Lodge carrying placards and empty cooking pots. However, they were met by officers who mounted a roadblock along the road.
Notably, they invaded an event that the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) Director-General Ezra Chiloba was attending, forcing him to scamper to safety.
The protestors allegedly made away with foodstuff which had been prepared for some of the guests attending the World Consumer Rights Day celebrations.
