KPLC Lists 86 Nairobi Estates Experiencing Blackout Due to Rainfall

Kenya Power on Thursday, March 16, listed 86 estates in Nairobi and other counties experiencing power interruption following intermittent rainfall experienced across the country. 

In a statement, the utility firm listed affected areas including Imara Daima, Villa Franca Estate, Mukuru, Goodlife apartments, St. Bakita, AA of Kenya Reinforcement and environs.

Areas along Jogoo road also experienced power interruption including Likoni Road, House of Manji, Premium Drums, Clesoi Road and Lunga Lunga Road.

Further, Allsops, Dandora Phase 5, Mowlem, Moi Airbase, Mathare, Juja road, 6th Street Eastleigh, Malewa Road, Zimmerman, Githurai 44, Imani Dispensary and Apostolic Church were also experiencing a power outage.

Regions in Kitengela along Athi River, Kitengela town, Kajiado, Old Namanga road, Kaputilei, Jokawa estate, Sinkeet farm, and Naivas Kitengela were affected over a sustained fault at the EPZ main line.

Areas along Outering road, Makadara Estate, Buruburu phase 4 and 5, Tena Estate, Umoja Estate and the environs were also listed as affected areas.

Estates surrounding Kamunde Road - Huruma experienced a power shortage as the main line was off. The affected areas include Kariobangi market, Kamunde road, Mathare north area, Kiamaiko estate, Korogocho and environs.

Part of Komarock estate, Joska, Kangundo road ,Kamulu. Malaa, Wangige, Gathiga, parts of Kasarani, Sportsview, Clay City, Lower Kabete area (affecting the University of Nairobi, Kingeero, Wangige and environs also experienced a power failure. 

Further, Masii town, Machakos, Kaani, Kithangani, Miondoni Market, Makutano, Kencell Konza and environs were among the affected areas listed. 

According to Kenya Power, areas along Buruburu, Harambee, Eastleigh, Kiambu, Uhuru, Bahati, Kimathi estate, Shauri Moyo experienced power over a fault at the Kimathi Substation.  

Kenya Power announced that restoration was in progress to restore power supply.

The update came as the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) forecast that rains in Nairobi County would begin from the third week of March.

"The rainfall is expected to increase in intensity and spread to several places towards the end of the third week of March," read the statement in part.
