The Ministry of Education, on Saturday, March 18, committed to releasing Ksh100 million to boost Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's former high school, Kianyaga High School.

Gachagua made the announcement during his homecoming event held at the school in Kirinyaga County, where he also conducted a fundraiser.

"The Ministry of Education under President William Ruto's government has committed to giving us Ksh50 million for 2023 and Ksh50 million for 2024," he announced.

"He will also provide books worth Ksh1 million. I have been to the library and it is in a dire state. Thank you," Gachagua added.

The DP was also accompanied by Education CS Ezekiel Machogu, governors, senators, Principal Secretaries, and the school's alumni.

"I am delighted to return to my former school Kianyaga High School 'Kalahari' for the first time as the Deputy President of the Republic of  Kenya - 40 years later," Gachagua stated.

Gachagua raised nearly Ksh19 million during the fundraiser, excluding promises issued by the leaders present.

President William Ruto's donated Ksh5 million from the money, while Gachagua's offered Ksh3 million.

Other promises included constructing a swimming pool, a dining hall, and classrooms. Sponsors also pledged to deliver 1,000 tree seedlings and 50 computers.

While at the school, Gachagua toured the facilities, underling that they were dilapidated and needed revamping.

"We want the ministry to assist us to make this school great. One the asbestos roofing must go, it is cancerous and needs to be changed," Gachagua remarked.

"For every donation, we have made today, we shall need something in return. We want the school to perform better and post good results. I put this school on the map as deputy president. I also want you to put me on the map," he added.
