Two Die as Car Rams Into Lorry at Kimende on Nairobi - Nakuru Highway

Traffic along Nakuru-Nairobi Highway was on Sunday, March 19, interrupted after a saloon car collided with a speeding lorry. 

It was reported that two people died instantly in the accident that took place around Kimende black spot, on the busy highway. 

Eyewitnesses recounted that the personal car was overtaking when the driver miscalculated the distance and crashed into an oncoming lorry head-on. 

"The personal car was on its way to Nairobi while the lorry was heading to Nakuru. The two vehicles collided as the car began overtaking," an eyewitness told journalists.

While the occupants in the personal car died on the spot, police revealed that those who were in the lorry survived and were immediately rushed to the hospital. 

"The survivors sustained serious injuries, and are in critical conditions even as they were transferred to the hospital," Nakuru police told the media. 

The two vehicles were badly damaged on the fronts due to the head-on collision that happened on the busy highway.   

The accident led to a traffic snarl-up on both sides of the busy Nakuru - Nairobi Highway that links the Capital to Western parts of the country. 

However, Nakuru police officers soon arrived at the scene of accident and embarked on clearing the wreckage from the road. 

The wreckage of the two vehicles was placed by the roadside before it was towed to Nakuru Police Headquarters for examination by accident investigators. 

Kimende area is a well-known black spot that killed nine people on August 24, 2018, when a public service vehicle and a lorry collided in the same area. 

The public service vehicle that was traveling from Nairobi to Nakuru collided with a lorry that was dangerously overtaking other cars. 

According to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), in 2022, the number of pedestrians who lost lives in accidents were 1,486, followed by drivers at 378, passengers at 721, pillion passengers at 377 and pedal cyclists at 56.
