When Maurice Ochieng, popularly known as Danny Miles, was diagnosed with cancer and soft tissue sarcoma early in 2022, the 28-year-old remained hopeful.

Until his death on Tuesday, March 21, Ochieng had garnered a huge following online who encouraged him through the excruciating journey.

The father of one documented his life on Facebook and, at times, appealed for help from well-wishers to cater for the medical bills among other necessities.

Through the platform, Ochieng received new oxygen concentrators from well-wishers and before his hand was amputated, he had a visible lump on his left hand near his elbow and was often bandaged.

While admitted at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Training and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH), Miles lamented that he was unable to continue with chemotherapy due to insufficient blood in his body.

"I have been strong ever since I started this journey but for now, I do not know what to do. Have I not been strong enough?" he posed

Furthermore, Ochieng complained that the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) was of no use. He hinted that someone benefited from his contribution.

The man from Muhoroni, Siaya County, on January 2023 appealed to a telco company to take care of his daughter once he passes on. At the time, he foretold that his end was near.

Before his death, Ochieng worked as a boda boda rider to provide for his young family after dropping out of Kenyatta University while in his third year.

To make ends meet, the content creator also designed branded t-shirts that sold for Ksh850 a piece and delivered for free within the Muhoroni area.

Meanwhile, Bonfire Adventures founder Simon Kabu, in January 2023, offered Ochieng a holiday while urging Kenyans to contribute through a paybill.

Ochieng described himself as a hardworking and determined digital content creator, musician, and songwriter.
