The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) on Monday, March 27, launched investigations into the conduct of the police after rowdy youth raided two private areas within the Nairobi Metropolis.

In a statement, the police oversight body cited allegations that police failed to provide adequate security to the property affected during the Monday demonstrations.

The probe into the incidents was included in a list of four incidents to be investigated.

"IPOA has noted and taken up four matters for investigations which will seek to establish police compliance with Article 244 of the Constitution, the Public Order Act and any other laws related to public management and the use of force.

"The Authority strongly calls upon the police to abide by the law in exercising their constitutional function of protection of life and property in line with the National Police Service Act, Section 24 (d)," read the statement in part.

While the oversight body did not name the property, attacks on Northlands City Project - owned by the Kenyatta family and the East Africa Spectre, owned by Raila were highlighted during the Monday protests.

In the case of the Northlands Project, armed goons attacked the property along the Eastern Bypass.

The goons made away with sheep and destroyed several trees planted next to the property's fence. Notably, a section of the vast project caught fire later in the evening.

On the other hand, Raila's property was pelted with stones by unknown individuals.

In both incidents, police were accused of failing to respond, even as Azimio leaders claimed that the government orchestrated the attack.

"Those cowards sent goons to Uhuru's farm in Ruiru and other people to East Africa Spectre. Those are acts of criminals," Raila alleged.

However, a section of Kenya Kwanza leaders led by Nandi senator, Samson Cherargei, responded to the claims alleging Azimio allegedly planned the raid.

"Attacks against Northlands & EA spectre Ltd were sponsored for public sympathy," he claimed.

The value of damages on both properties was yet to be established by the time of publishing this article.
