The Public Service Commission (PSC) on Thursday, March 30, announced vacancies for qualified candidates to fill the position of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) governor and deputy.
In a notice published in local dailies, the qualified candidates must hold a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Economics, Banking, Finance or Law.
The candidate also needs over ten years of experience at the senior management level in a field relevant to the functions of the Central Bank.
For appointment to the position, the candidates also need to have knowledge or experience in monetary, financial, banking and economic matters or other disciplines.
In addition, the applicants will be required to demonstrate leadership and people management skills including performance management, coaching and mentoring.
They ought to be committed to the consistent delivery of the highest quality outputs, with deep technical understanding and attention to detail.
Risk management-ability was also pinpointed as among the skills as candidates are required to identify operational and market risks and develop mitigating measures.
Successful applicants will be vetted by the PSC and then forwarded to the National Assembly for approval. Afterward, President William Ruto will appoint the successful candidates for a four-year term basis, renewable once.
The positions will become vacant in June 2023 when the current Governor Dr. Patrick Njoroge and Deputy Governor Sheila M’Mbijjewe complete their tenure.

Interested candidates will be required to attach current and valid clearances from the following bodies: Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Registered Credit Reference Bureau, Police Clearance Certificate, printed online self-declaration application acknowledgment receipt from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and recommendation from relevant professional bodies.
Each application ought to be submitted together with a detailed curriculum vitae, copy of ID, copies of academic certificates, testimonials and publications.
Applications should be submitted either in a sealed envelope clearly marked 'Application for Governor, Central Bank of Kenya' or 'Application for Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Kenya' and addressed to the PSC CEO.

All applications should reach the Commission, on or before April 19, 2023, latest by 5.00 pm.
The search for CBK bosses came days after President Ruto on February 14, 2023, appointed Susan Jemtai Koech to serve as the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya.
Koech beat nine other shortlisted candidates who had been vetted for the job on Tuesday, December 13, 2022.
