A man from Thome Estate in Kasarani, Nairobi County, fell victim to the notorious spiking gang that left him without his valuables including Ksh849,000.
According to reports, the victim was enjoying drinks at a nightclub in Nairobi alongside friends when a female friend joined them and asked for a ride.
However, when he dropped her at Thome Estate, he immediately slipped unconscious and only woke up inside his car parked at a petrol station the following morning.
His two phones, valued at Ksh250,000 were missing as well as his identity card and ATM cards. The victim later discovered that Ksh849,000 had been withdrawn from his bank accounts.
The victim lamented that the woman was missing and no one picked up when he attempted to call his number.
He later reported the incident to Kasarani Police Station before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) took over the investigations.
After extensive investigations, the woman behind the syndicate was arrested alongside an accomplice. The duo was, however, released on a Ksh1 million and Ksh500,000 bond.
Their cases will be consolidated as the hearing was scheduled for September 26.
Cases of revelers being drugged and losing millions are often reported with Kenyans being urged to be cautious while enjoying drinks in public places.
In February 2023, a bartender from a popular joint in Kamakis along the Eastern Bypass saved three men from losing their valuables after being drugged.
According to a report by the DCI, the bartender noticed the men were behaving unusually prompting him to alert the authorities.
"Our officers who responded immediately, and upon a quick search, recovered stupefying tablets from them," DCI disclosed.
