A postmortem conducted on Thursday, April 6, on the body of June Jerop - a Kenyatta University student who was found dead after going on a coffee date - established that she died of excessive bleeding.
In the exercise done by pathologists at a hospital based in Nairobi County, it was established that the 36- year-old was stabbed in the chest.
According to the report, the murder weapon reached the heart.
The exercise was conducted in the presence of family representatives and detectives.
Meanwhile, the police arrested Jerop's boyfriend in Nairobi who was treated as a person of interest in the case.
Police are also pursuing other suspects as detectives believe that the murder was conducted with alibis.
“We have arrested three suspects who are aiding in investigations. So far we have analysed phone data and we are piecing together more information to unravel the circumstances surrounding her death.
“More than seven people have recorded statements and we are pursuing more who interacted with her before she met her death,” a detective in the case stated.
According to family and friends, the student pursuing a master's degree course was last seen on Saturday, March 18, at 5 pm before heading out on a date.
Her body was later found two days later on Monday, March 20 along a road near Jamhuri Primary School in Nairobi County.
Concern over her disappearance was raised after her sister - Joyce Jepkemoi could not reach her on phone on Sunday, March 19.
“Her friends told us she informed them that she was going to meet a male friend, but did not disclose much more about it, only for her body to be found dumped on the roadside on Monday morning.
“We assumed that the battery on her phone had run out of power,” she stated.
The motive behind the murder is yet to be established.
