Police investigating the murder of June Jerop - a Kenyatta University student who was murdered while allegedly on a coffee date - on Thursday, April 6, revealed that they were following a lead that would connect the main suspect and one of her colleagues at her workplace.
Speaking to the media, Makadara sub-county police commander Judith Nyongesa revealed that the 36-year-old was communicating with two men on the evening she disappeared.
The colleague was also arrested as a person of interest in the case as the police continued investigating the murder, seeking to unravel the killer's motive.
Additionally, it was alleged that the colleague was related to the main suspect in the murder. Police, however, played cagey with the report, declining to confirm whether the two were related.
"The movements and the connections of the phones reveal that they were together all the time, and that is what led us to arrest the main suspect," the police stated.
On the other hand, Jerop's sister - Joyce Jepkemoi, maintained that they were suspicious of the connection between the main suspect with some of her sister's colleagues, even as they called on the police to speed up their investigations.
"The suspect is coincidentally a relative of one of her colleagues. For us, it is really raising a lot of eyebrows," she stated.
Jerop was found murdered next to Jamhuri Primary School, which is next to Ngong Road, on Monday, March 20.
The 36-year-old was captured on CCTV at South B and Imara Daima at a chemist alongside the main suspect driving a black Mercedes Benz.
Police tracked their last phone signals at Mavoko before they went dark.
The main suspect was arrested around the Industrial area after travelling from his hometown - Bungoma County.
His car was later retrieved from his Bungoma home with blood. Samples were collected from the vehicles to determine whose blood it was.
According to the autopsy on Jerop's body, the 36-year-old died of excessive bleeding after a stabbing.
