Former Homeboyz radio presenter Shaffie Weru on Friday, April 7, revealed that he worked for Nairobi Governor Johnson Sajaka for months without pay before being appointed Head of Events and Branding.

Speaking during an interview on  NTV's show - the Trend, the media personality noted that he began working with the governor in October 2022 and reported daily to his office.

He noted that he took his tasks without complaints and kept pushing himself to attain his goals. Shaffie finally got a reprieve after he was offered his new role on April 4.

"I kept showing up at city hall, and the Chief Officer in the governor's office can attest to that. I showed up with no salary to work, and that is from October 2022.

"I kept pushing and did what I had to do," he stated.

The radio personality added that he got to know Sakaja while he worked in President William Ruto's campaign team as they developed communication strategies for winning the 2022 General Election.

Another encounter with the governor was during the launch of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi's manifesto  - where the politician was famed for his earthquake speech.

Shaffie disclosed that the governor was pleased with his work and tasked him with organising his inauguration event.

On the other hand, he relived his struggles after being fired from the radio in 2021 for making controversial comments, which he acknowledged was a mistake.

"It took me a while to understand. What we did on the radio was wrong, and I take the blame for the rest because I was more senior. They say that when the ship is seeking, it goes down with the captain who I was. We went the wrong route, and it went the other way.

"There were times it was hard. It is great that I did not have to remove my children from school. Some friends also gave me work. Every day, I had to work extra hard. I was on the campaign trail with the president and I use to carry speakers," he recalled.
