Three businessmen on Monday, April 10, donated Ksh100 million to Highlands primary school for the construction of a modern tuition block.
In a ceremony at the school, the three presented the money to the school inviting other alumni and students to the occasion.
The businessmen who had studied at the school as early as the 1950s made the decision to fundraise for the project three years ago.
Explaining how they arrived at the decision, the Kericho-based entrepreneurs stated that they wanted to better the education at the institution.
They noted that the tuition block at the school was in a deplorable state and did not adequately serve the students at the school.
After they began raising the funds, they noted that other alumni of Highlands Primary School who were abroad heard of their initiative and decided to join them.
Alumni from the United Kingdom(UK), Canada and Australia decided to come together to top up the amount the three raised.
“When we started the project, other alumni of the school based in the UK, Canada and Australia later joined the project forming a group to partner with us making the project a success,” one of the alumni stated.
“53 years ago, I stood here as a head girl of class seven of 1971,” one of the alumni recounted.
The three raised concerns to parents and teachers at the Kericho-based school noting that the school had lost its culture that enabled them to stay disciplined.
“The school should become a role model and we need to see that happening soon. To the parents and children of this school, I think we lost our culture somewhere down the road.
“We need to bring back our culture and discipline and I think when we get that right this school will be one of the best,” an alumnus stated.
