An expectant woman from Sericho ward, Isiolo County was on Tuesday, April 19, airlifted in a chopper to hospital.
It was an initiative by the community and Isiolo County Government to save the life of the mother and her unborn child.
The community resorted to the move after impassable roads following the ongoing heavy rains in the area made it difficult for her to travel to the hospital.
The family of the expectant woman sought help from the county health department and as a result, Isiolo County Deputy Governor James Lowasa organised for a chopper to save her life.
"The health department received a distress call from a family in Sericho Ward where an expectant woman was experiencing an emergency," Lowasa stated.
Lowasa noted that as a result, an ambulance could not be dispatched to the home since the roads were impassable.
Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) resilient community conservancies, therefore, responded to the distress call from county officials and sent a chopper to Sericho.
"I advised my team to look for help in form of airlift from our partners. NRT Kenya responded immediately airlifting the woman to Isiolo County Referral Hospital," Lowasa added.
Chief Officer for Public Health, Bisharo Hassan explained that the county health department went beyond the call of duty to rescue the expectant woman in dire need of medical attention.
"This heroic effort showcases the selfless and unwavering dedication of healthcare professionals who go above and beyond to provide critical care, even in the most challenging circumstances," stated Hassan.
The leaders, together with the community and partners, demonstrated commitment to saving lives and ensuring the well-being of citizens.
The expectant mother is currently receiving medical care at the Isiolo County Referral Hospital.
