A bursar from Chebisaas Girls Secondary School, Nandi County, recorded a statement at Nandi Hills Police Station over claims of losing Ksh1.25 million that he had stashed inside his parked car at Nandi Hills town.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, a source privy to the matter indicated that detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Nandi East also took possession of the bursar's mobile phone to access the call records in the hours leading to the incident.

Police officers, the source added, were investigating how the incident occurred in broad daylight in mere five minutes without eyewitnesses in a busy town.

In his statement, the bursar claimed to have been trailed by a Probox during the journey.

"Police are investigating why the bursar would leave his car in the middle of a town with such cash, if he felt he was being trailed. He would have gone to the police station," the source stated.

Gone in Five Minutes

On Wednesday morning, April 19, the school bursar travelled from Kapsabet town en route to Chebisas Secondary School.  At the time, he had already withdrawn Ksh1.2 million from three banking institutions in the town.

According to the source, he shifted from the route to Nandi Hills town to run errands.

At around 2:00 pm, he parked his car outside a bank and went to a shop. After around five minutes, he claimed to have found his car broken into with the cash gone.

He raised the alarm to the security guards manning the bank, seeking aid. Locals who spoke to the media indicated a Probox parked behind the car minutes after the bursar entered the shop.

Two people alighted and opened the car, without any forceful entry, and after a few minutes, went back to the car - without depicting any signs of suspicious behaviour.

It is suspected that the thugs used a forged key to access the vehicle. The source affirmed that police officers would not leave any stone unturned until they unravel the mystery.
