Former Yatta Member of Parliament (MP) Gedion Mutiso passed away on Wednesday, April 26.
The family confirmed that the ex-politician, 91, died at a hospital in Nairobi County, where he was receiving treatment.
Mutiso served as the first Member of Parliament of the Yatta Constituency in Machakos County.
Current Yatta MP Robert Basil condoled with the deceased's family, terming him a visionary leader who set the pace for others.
"It is sad to learn the sudden demise of the first and longest serving Member of Parliament, Yatta Constituency, Gedion Munyaao Mutiso majorly known as Mutiso wa Yatta," he wrote.
The MP noted that his death was a great loss not only to his family but to the people of Yattaa, who will remember him for serving them rightfully and fruitfully.
"May his family and Yatta people be condoled. May the Almighty God give you strength and comfort you during this hard time. Peace be with you. May our Good gracious God Rest His soul in eternal peace," Basil added.
On April 11, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Nadaragua MP Jeremiah Kioni, and other leaders visited the deceased while he was admitted to the hospital.
The leaders vowed to stand with the MP during the difficult time before he recovered.
Mutiso was born in 1932 and was in active politics since 1955. He fought for equality and equity in the job market under the Cables and Wireless African Workers Union.
The deceased, who also served as the Assistant Minister for Education, is further known for representing Kenya in the Africa Trade Union Confederation.
