Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) on Friday, April 28, shed light on claims that one of its top commanders resigned in a huff after receiving death.

In a statement shared by the Kenyan military via its social media platforms, KDF stated that the letter that suggested that Major General Jeff Nyagah had resigned was false and misleading.

KDF stated that Maj Gen Jeff Mungai Nyagah did not resign, but his term ended after six months of service in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

"Be informed that President William Ruto, has today on the advice of the Defence Council upheld among other recommendations the appointment of Maj Gen Jeff Mungai Nyagah as the General Officer Commanding Western Command (GOC WESTCOM) after a successful 6-month tour as the first Force Commander, East Africa Community Regional Force (FC EACRF) -DRC," read part of KDF statement.

The Forces further explained that Nyagah's successor was unveiled immediately after carefully evaluating his role in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

"Maj Gen Alphaxard Muthuri Kiugu is the newly appointed FC EACRF - DRC to replace Maj Gen Jeff Nyagah," KDF confirmed.

The fake letter alleged that Nyagah resigned after unidentified people threatened his life.

Nyagah and other KDF soldiers were also said to have faced frustrations while on a tour of duty in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

On Friday, April 29, President William Ruto promoted Jeff Nyagah in a raft of changes that also saw Lieutenant General Francis Ogolla appointed as the new Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).

"General Francis Omondi Ogolla replaces General Robert Kariuki Kibochi whose term of service has honorably come to an end after 44 years of an illustrious military career," read the statement in part.

Ruto also promoted Lt. Gen. Jonah Mwangi as the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces.

Prior to his promotion, Mwangi served as the Vice Chancellor of, the National Defence University, Kenya. Major General Said Farah took over as the new Vice-Chancellor.

Other appointments included Brigadier David Kipkemboi Keter, promoted to Major General and appointed Assistant Chief of the Defence Forces Personnel and Logistics.
