2 Ministries Announce Motor Vehicle Auction in Nairobi; How to Bid

Treasury and the Ministry of Agriculture, on Monday, May 1, announced a public auction of motor vehicles.

Through a public notice, the Agriculture Ministry, headed by Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi, listed unserviceable items, including used motor vehicles and worn-out tyres.

On the other hand, the Njuguna Ndung’u-led Treasury Ministry announced that it would be auctioning used vehicles only

“The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, State Department for Crop Development invites interested bidders for public auction of obsolete and unserviceable assets,” a notice from Linturi’s ministry read in part.

According to the notice, the auction will be held at Kenya Agricultural Research and Livestock Organisation (KARLO) Kabete Headquarters, Waiyaki Way, at 10:00 am.

“Viewing dates will be between Wednesday, May 3 and Tuesday, May 16, and subsequent allocation done between Wednesday, May 17 and Thursday, May 18,” the agriculture ministry stated.

For the National Treasury, a mandatory viewing/inspection of the vehicles for disposal will be at the Chief Mechanical and Transport Yard, Machakos Road, Industrial Area, on Tuesday, May 9 2023, from 11.00 AM. 

How to bid;

For purchasing used vehicles and worn-out tyres from the Ministry of Agriculture, interested bidders should obtain bidding information from www.kilimo.go.ke.

Conditions to bid from the Ministry of Agriculture

All interested purchasers must pay a deposit of Ksh20,000 per lot or item on auction.

“Where the bid price is lower than the deposit price, the bidder will be refunded the difference between the bid price and the deposit amount on the presentation of the receipt. 

“However, where the bid price is higher than the deposit the bidder will need to pay not less than 25 per cent of the total value. The balance must be paid within 24 hours failure to which the award will be cancelled and the deposit forfeited and the item sold to the second highest bidder,” the notice reads in part.

The Ksh20,000 deposit should be made in cash at the cash office situated at Kahawa House Lower ground floor.

For those seeking to bid for vehicles at National Treasury, they must obtain a complete set of Tender Documents may free of charge at www.treasury.go.ke or www.tenders.go.ke

“Completed tender document in "Original", enclosed in plain sealed envelopes, marked with the relevant Tender Number and Title shall be addressed to: The Principal Secretary, The National Treasury, P. O. Box 30007-00100, Nairobi, Kenya,” the Treasury directs.

The tender documents must be submitted on or before Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at 11.00 AM.
