Govt Announces Mass Auction of Cars Valued in Millions; How to Bid

The government announced a mass auction of 34 second-hand cars, furniture, and other machinery valued in millions on Thursday, March 30.

In a tender notice by the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA), members of the public were asked to visit the respective locations of the cars and machinery to carry out their own assessment before making final bids.

In addition, the Agency noted that the auction prices for the cars would depend on the year the vehicle was manufactured and the preferred price of the factory where it was being sold.

“KTDA invites bids for tenders interested in the purchase of boarded motor vehicles, used machinery and various assorted items,” the notice read in part

Among the vehicles set for actioning include a 2007 Toyota Landcruiser S/CAB which is valued at Ksh900,0000 in one factory while the 2012 Land Cruiser is valued at Ksh3.5 million.

Other vehicles include several Isuzu FSRs with prices ranging from Ksh850,000 and Ksh1.8 million depending on the location of the factory purchased from. 

At the same time, a Toyota Hilux D/CAB will be auctioned from Ksh800,000 ranging up to  Ksh950,000 

On the other hand, a 2009 Toyota Hilux s/CAB was valued at Ksh780,000 while a Mitsubishi FH 215's value hit the Ksh1 million mark and a 2011 Mitsubishi Pajero went for Ksh2.3 million. 

A 2011 Toyota Corolla will be auctioned for KSh1.1 million while a Tractor New Holand sold for Ksh780,000.

Other items listed for auctioning include an office safe, office seats, assorted furniture, assorted printers, old assorted laptops, generators and assorted desktops. 

How to Bid

The tenderers bidding for the boarded motor vehicles are required to pay in advance a refundable tender deposit fee of Ksh5,0000 per vehicle. 

In addition, they were directed to obtain the tender documents from the procurement office along Moi Avenue in Nairobi after the payment of a non-refundable tender fee of Ksh2,000 per item.

“The sale of all the above-listed items shall be on ‘As Is Where Is Basis’. Viewing of the items will be by arrangement with the officer in charge of the location where the item is located,” detailed the notice.

The deadline for the application of the bids was set for April 6, 2023.
