As Kenyans grapple with the high cost of living and skyrocketing power prices, Kenya Power through its flagship electric cooking campaign Pika na Power listed four appliances that Kenyans could use while cooking to save time, power and money.

According to Pika na Power, the electric appliances are easy to use and allow for little use of products such as oil while cooking.

Further, some of the appliances can be used without having to attend to the food allowing individuals to engage in other activities while preparing meals.

“The appliances are a good idea to save time and money while cooking healthy and tasty meals,” stated the notice.

The four appliances include:

The Electric pressure cooker

An electric pressure cooker allows boiling water to reach a higher temperature and maintain the temperature creating pressure that cooks food faster.

They are similar to regular saucepans except that the lid is sealed, trapping high-pressure steam inside the pan. A valve maintains the proper level of pressure.

Because a pressure cooker emits less steam than a regular saucepan, it can use up to 70% less energy, lowering fuel bills and carbon emissions.

It saves time by easily cooking food that would otherwise take a longer time to cook like frozen meat, lentils and chickpeas or dried beans.

One can also leave the appliance unmonitored for long periods of time without fear of any kitchen emergencies.

Induction cooker

Induction cooktops are approximately 5-10% more energy efficient per unit than conventional electric cooktops and approximately three times more energy efficient per unit than conventional gas products.

Unlike gas and electric cooktops, which transfer energy through thermal conduction, an induction cooktop generates a magnetic field that induces current directly inside the cookware.

As a result, when cookware is placed above an induction cooktop, the magnetic field penetrates the metal.

It therefore uses less energy to cook food saving electricity.

 Air Fryer

Air fryers are known to be more eco-friendly than electric ovens, deep fryers, and toaster ovens because the fan is more powerful and the compartment is smaller, making the entire device more efficient.

Compared to deep-fat frying it is a healthier option because it has lower fat content compared to using an oven.

It also takes lesser time to cook food compared to other appliances.

One can also leave the appliance unmonitored for long periods of time without fear of any kitchen emergencies.

Rice cooker
A rice cooker is one of the kitchen appliances that help to make rice faster, tastier and easier.

Aside from keeping food warm, modern rice cookers allow for cooking different dishes by using multi-function settings.

The appliance is easy to clean and consumes less power and time.
