Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers on Tuesday, May 16, conducted one of the most sophisticated forensic exercises to arrest suspected robbers who stormed a Nakuru radio station and stole goods.

The DCI officers explained that the delicate operation involved specialists from DCI's Forensic Crime Scene Investigation Services who used high-tech devices to pin down the suspected robbers.

Once the officers established the exact location of the suspects, they sent in a quick-reaction team that caught the two suspects unawares at two different locations.

"The suspects were hiding in two different locations in order to fool the police officers who were looking for them," read part of the reports.

The two suspects were on Tuesday, May 17, arraigned before Nakuru Nakuru Chief Magistrate Bildad Ochieng, to who the police sought orders to detain them for seven more days.

Chief Magistrate Ochieng granted the police officers their request, allowing them to detain the suspected robbers for seven more days in order to complete investigations into the incident that took place at Mwinjoyo Radio Station.

In the miscellaneous application, DCI officers told the court investigators were able to recover a panga that was suspected to have been used in the robbery.

“I authorise the Eric Wainana, an investigator with the DCI in Nakuru North by this order to detain the suspects for a period of seven days so as to complete their investigations,” Chief Magistrate Ochieng stated.

Chief Magistrate Ochieng ordered the police to detain the two suspects at Bahati Police Line in Nakuru County.

The officers told the court that they needed to subject the panga to forensics in order to establish if it was used in the criminal act that left victims terrified.

The suspects who were arrested were believed to be part of a gang that on Friday, May 12, robbed Mwinjoyo Radio station's crew of valuables including mobile phones and Ksh35,000 in cash.

DCI officers also informed the court that they were looking for six other suspects who were yet to be arrested since they had most likely moved from Nakuru town.
