Police launched a manhunt for two robbery-with-violence suspects accused of escaping from lawful custody at Kakamega Police Station.
The two DI, 26, and AK, 29, were reported to have escaped from the station’s cells on Thursday morning, May 25.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) claimed the two vanished under mysterious circumstances.
“Police are looking for two robbery-with-violence suspects who escaped from lawful custody at Kakamega police station. DI, 26, and AK, 29, escaped from the station’s cells under unclear circumstances yesterday morning, as reported by the duty officer.
“DI, had been arrested 3 days ago by sleuths from the elite Crime Research & Intelligence Bureau, after being on the run for weeks,” stated the DCI.
The duty officer raised the alarm prompting police and detectives to track them down.
"Meanwhile, two police officers who were on duty when the duo escaped have since been placed in custody to assist with investigations," the DCI noted.
According to the DCI, DI was arrested on Wednesday, May 24, by sleuths from the elite Crime Research & Intelligence Bureau. They are accused of also stealing from people in Vihiga and Uasin Gishu Counties.
"He was apprehended after being on the run for weeks and is wanted for numerous armed robberies in Western Kenya, including the attack on a senior DCI officer based in Kakamega, who escaped death with life-threatening injuries," DCI explained.
Two police officers on duty, when the duo escaped, were grilled on the incident even as they called on citizens to help them with information in order to rearrest them.
"Meanwhile, two police officers who were on duty when the duo escaped have since been placed in custody to assist with investigations.
