Moja Expressway on Monday, May 29, invited Kenyans to propose changes on the 27.1-kilometre elevated Nairobi Expressway in order to provide efficient service delivery.

In a statement, the operator identified the need to optimise and upgrade some of the toll stations, including entrances and exits, to avoid long traffic snarl-up at the stations.

Some of the changes proposed by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) include the construction of the New Haile-Selassie Exit consisting of five lanes, the upgrading of the Museum Hill Exit A and the renovation of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) entrance.

KeNHA also maintained that plans were underway to construct the exit at the Central Business District (CBD). The exit is expected to be introduced at the Green Park Terminus.

In the questionnaire, Moja Expressway sought to understand the technical difficulties motorists experienced at toll stations including faulty payment machines or gate malfunctions.

Other queries were based on the ease of accessing the exit and entrances at the targeted existing toll stations. Motorists were also asked to provide information on the overall user experience of the road as well as their confidence in the safety features installed at the toll stations.

Further, Moja Expressway prompted whether the proposed upgrade works would impact the travel time, cost of transport, social environment and biophysical environment.

Kenyans were also requested to give their views on how to improve the user experience at the toll road. Some of the changes proposed by Kenyans online included the creation of a U-Turn for motorists who passed an exit by mistake.

Others suggested the efficiency of the online payment system to curb traffic snarl-up on the roads.

The operator availed a link to their social media platforms for motorists to fill out the questionnaire. They will be diverted to a form consisting of nine questions and after completion, click submit.

In April 2023, Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen pointed out that the construction of the expressway designs would take eight months.

"The construction of the exit will take eight months from the date of the issuance of the contracting authority which is expected to be communicated to the project developer by the end of this month," he stated.
