Pastors in Bungoma County, on Tuesday, June 6, surprised controversial deacon and self-proclaimed messiah, Yesu wa Tongaren, with an educational sponsorship program.
The pastors who visited his home revealed that they were willing to facilitate his Theology studies.
According to the evangelists, Theology would help Yesu wa Tongaran (Eliud Wekesa) discern God's Word.
“We saw the need to help Yesu wa Tongaren undergo training that would help him serve the church and worshippers.
“He will also become more authoritative in service to God,” the evangelists pitched their offer.
They also claimed that Yesu wa Tongaren was running his church illegally since it was not registered.
Acquiring a Theology certificate, they stated, would fast-track his registration process.
An ecstatic Yesu wa Tongaren thanked the preachers for visiting his home and following up on his ministry, recently attracting nationwide attention.
“Some people kept questioning why servants of God were not visiting me.
“Today, they can see that evangelists have decided to visit Yesu wa Tongaren,” Eliud Wekesa stated.
While he did not categorically accept the offer, the self-proclaimed Jesus revealed that the visit, in a way, proved his legitimacy.
“Serving God does not require academic qualifications. If God calls you to serve him, he will guide you in the ministry.
“I thank the pastors who have visited me, and I am praying so that God will speak to me so that his will may be done,” he claimed that he would seek God’s intervention before deciding whether to take the offer.
The pastor’s wife had asked for well-wishers to sponsor him with a car for his ministry.
Yesu wa Tongaren was released from detention on Tuesday, May 16, after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) failed to press charges. The New Jerusalem Church leader was investigated for suspected cultic activities.
