Eyewitnesses, on Thursday, June 8, detailed the horror that gripped residents of Ongata Rongai after a mother of two allegedly killed her children before attempting suicide.

Speaking to the media, a neighbour who spoke anonymously, recounted that the fracas in the woman's apartments began moments after the husband arrived.

The eyewitness claimed that the woman and her husband argued at 1 am before the latter ran out of the house with stab wounds.

Shortly after, the woman locked the door and attacked her children - a six and two-year-old.

As some of the neighbours in the five-storey building attended to the injured husband - who was stabbed to the head and neck- others rushed to the house to rescue the children.

They were forced to break in after discovering the doors were locked from inside. However, the neighbours' efforts to rescue the children proved futile, as they reportedly bled to death.

"We had to break the doors to get in and save the children. Unfortunately, we found that the kids were no more.

"The woman had also suffered critical injuries," the eyewitness detailed.

Police arrived as the woman, and her husband were being rushed to the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH). The children's bodies were later ferried to the county morgue.

Following the incident, the woman's friends expressed shock, stating that she appeared jovial and loved her kids. Her demeanour did not prompt them to raise the alarm or spot red flags.

Neither did the neighbour think that the wrangle between the couple, who had lived in the apartments for three years and occasionally involved in domestic feuds, would escalate.

Kajiado North Police Commander, Hussein Gura, on the other hand, revealed that they were in possession of the murder weapon and were investigating the incident.

"We want to urge families to seek the assistance of counsellors in case of any issues so that we avoid such incidents," he stated.
