President William Ruto’s administration entered into agreements with select foreign governments to export human capital.

Many Kenyans, though, do not benefit from the agreements as they encounter mishaps during the application process, including failure to secure work visas or permits.

Ivy Mariol of Worth Start Africa Limited, a travelling agency, on Tuesday, June 13, shared the documents needed to secure a work permit.

While documents needed differ from one embassy to another, Kenyans.co.ke compiled the mandatory requirements that cut across all diplomatic missions.

Academic certificates

When applying for a skilled job abroad, an applicant must provide proof of his or her academic and professional qualifications.

This is achieved through a detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV) and a copy of academic certificates.

“You must show proof that you are qualified for the job you are applying for. For example, if you are applying for an Information Technology (IT) job, you must show your qualifications in the field,” Mariol advised Kenyans while appearing on NTV

Person identification documents (3)

To prove your identity, the embassy will need to see original copies of your identification documents.

These include; National Identity Card (ID), a valid passport and a birth certificate.

Identification documents for kin

Mariol explains that the embassy needs proof of family ties. This confirms that you will return to Kenya once your contract ends.

Many immigrants use the work permit visa as a loophole to flee their country of birth permanently.

You will further need to provide the following documents; copies of IDs of your parents, spouse(s) (if any), IDs of your children if they are over 18, and birth certificates for minors.

Good Conduct

Embassies do not grant work permits to convicted felons; criminal record lead to automatic rejection.

To prove that you are a law-abiding citizen, you must provide an original copy of the good conduct certificate, issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
