The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) on Saturday, June 17, flagged job advertisements that announced over 2,000 vacancies at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) as fake.

In a statement, the authority indicated that the advertisements, which made rounds on social media platforms, did not emanate from them.

Some of the jobs that had been advertised included those of drivers, flight attendants, and luggage handlers.

KAA also revealed that a number of applicants were being duped into fake applications because they were asked to make payments during the application process.

In its statement, the authority added that some of the scammers behind the fake adverts were creating parody accounts on social media to make them look genuine.

"It has come to our attention that some unscrupulous persons are defrauding members of the public through false claims that they can secure employment at Kenya Airports Authority.

"Unsuspecting victims are being lured through via fake social media pages and posters," read the statement in part.

In the fake advertisement, KAA was purportedly on a mass recruitment exercise with some of the jobs attracting pay as high as Ksh38,000.

Consequently, the agency - in charge of airports in the country - urged those interested in working with them to check their official platforms for authentic job vacancies.

"Please note, all job opportunities available at the authority are officially advertised in leading daily newspapers and posted on the KAA official website - www.kaa.go.ke," the authority clarified.

A majority of Kenyans in recent years have lost their hard-earned money to scammers in fake job adverts as they are desperate to get employment.

According to the Kenya Bureau of Statistics(KNBS), the unemployment rate in the country between October - December 2022 stood at 4.9 per cent.
