First Lady Rachel Ruto on Sunday, June 18, drew similarities between President William Ruto's style of raising children and her own father's.

In a heartfelt note in honour of Fathers' Day, the First Lady reminisced about growing up under the protection of her father.

Rachel explained that her father taught her the value of patience and persistence, a trait her husband would pass down to their children many years later.

“I have many fond memories of my father but the moments spent polishing his shoes have stayed with me through the years.

“My father would make me polish his shoes in front of a mirror and whenever I thought I had achieved the perfect lustre, he would make me brush some more,” she explained.

The First Lady explained how that shaped her noting, "Without telling me he was teaching me, my father taught me that every glow comes after a gruesome brush.

Rachel explained that she was amazed to see Ruto take the same approach with their children.

“Years later, I have seen Bill (Ruto) do the same with our children. Maybe it's every father's thing. To teach without telling,” she posted.

She added that all Kenyan fathers should emulate that and know how to teach good values to their children.

“Today, as we mark this Fathers' Day, I celebrate all the fathers who teach their children that in everything they do, they must endeavour to ‘get the sheen right!’,” She advised.

Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June every year and is observed in over seventy countries.

The day is dedicated to honour and appreciate fathers for the role they play in raising up children.
