Second Lady Pastor Dorcas Gachagua, on Wednesday, June 21, unveiled a cash reward program designed to motivate sportsmen and women.

Athletes participating in Special Olympics World Games in Berlin, Germany, will be the first beneficiaries of this initiative.

Coaches who help disabled athletes break records in the Germany event will also be rewarded.

"The coaches have been great friends to you, and ensured you remain a strong unit. Ultimately, everyone who came here is a winner,” she lauded the athletes.

Pastor Dorcas, the patron of Special Olympics Kenya, made the promise after three Kenyan athletes bagged medals in the competition, which began on June 17.

David Ngugi and Daniel Mutiso won gold in the 15 kilometres cycling road race and the 800 meters men’s race, respectively. Willis Otieno also won Silver in the standing long jump.

Other than monetary benefits, Pastor Dorcas announced plans to launch a nationwide campaign to empower athletes with special needs.

"We shall go across the 47 counties and look for others with intellectual disabilities, and maybe in the next Special Olympics, Kenya will have the largest team. We will then prepare properly, and when we attend the games, we will win many medals," she stated.

According to the DP's spouse, the new initiative is part of her plans to change society, including empowering the boychild

Pastor Dorcas Gachagua is actively involved in multiple initiatives that benefit various vulnerable groups. Her efforts extend to people living with disabilities (PWDs), widows, and orphans. Additionally, Pastor Dorcas is also a strong advocate for chaplaincy and family values.

In Berlin, she met other global leaders, imploring them to support her initiatives in the country. She also shared her vision titled A Dignified Future for Vulnerable Populations seeking to empower the boychild, widows, orphans, and people with disabilities (PWDs)

“A country or community that does not care for the vulnerable is heartless and will not go far. For the longest time, we have caused pain to the people we should be relieving.

"We take the PWDs to schools, but the institutions do not have the infrastructure to accommodate them comfortably. It is time we changed our mindset and how we look at PWDs," Pastor Dorcas stated while addressing delegates at the Kenya House

Before flying out to Germany, DP's spouse rescued a man who had lost two jobs after wallowing in substance addiction. She promised to support his rehabilitation and offer him a scholarship to join a vocational facility.
