Kindiki Reshuffles 204 Deputy County Commissioners

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, on Friday, June 23, redeployed 204 Deputy County Commissioners (DCCs). 

According to the Ministry of Interior, the changes were supposed to take effect immediately, with the commissioners ordered to report to their new stations starting Monday, June 26.

The reshuffle was expected to help President William Ruto's government strengthen the country's security sector.

"It is notified for information of the general public that the government has effected transfer/deployment of two hundred and four (204) Deputy County Commissioners countrywide," Kindiki stated.

Some key changes included the transfer of Moranga Morekwa, who was moved from Mbita to Mathira East, while Joseph Kimutai was moved from Mathira East to Etago.

Harun Kamau was transferred from Etago to Khwisero, Jackson Omondi from Khwisero to PA/County Commissioner Murang'a and Paul Waweru from PA/County Commissioner Murang'a to Kiminini in Bungoma. 

In the changes, Dolphin Wanzala was moved from Kiminini to Marakwet East, Ahmed Somo from Marakwet East to Narok Central, Kennedy Mwangome from Narok Central to Embakasi, and Abraham Kemboi from Embakasi to Luanda.

Other DCCs who were moved from headquarters included Geoffrey Tanui, who was posted to Loitktok, Ahmed Mohamud (Narok East), Lilian Jerop (Kesses), Rebecca Muturi (Mbeere North), Gideon Ombongi (Turkana South) and Hillary Koech (Habaswein).

Kindiki also moved Abaraham Laikera to Laikipia West, Stanley Mutua (Konoin), Anneta Mwangi (Tseikuru) and Titus Murei (Mandera North).

Meanwhile, several DCCs were recalled to the ministry's headquarters from their various posts, including Abdihakim Jubat (Trans-Mara South), Angela Makau (Ithanga) and Evans Wendot (PA to Nairobi regional commissioner).

Role of Deputy County Commissioners

Deputy County Commissioners (DCCs) drive government affairs and policies in counties and sub-counties. They are responsible for ensuring that government policies are implemented effectively, and the needs of the people are met.

Other roles include assisting the police in maintaining law and order by promoting peace and security and identifying and implementing development projects alongside relevant authorities.
