The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) on Friday, July 7, cautioned motorists against engaging cruise control - a system that allows motorists to drive at a set speed without engaging the accelerator.
In a statement, the authority noted that the advisory was informed by rains that had been experienced in recent days across the country making road surfaces wet.
The authority further noted that fog could affect the visibility of drivers, making driving on cruise control dangerous.
NTSA has also cautioned motorists against instant braking on wet roads as this could send vehicles skidding, causing accidents that could lead to loss of life.
"Take great caution during wet weather, reduce your speed and turn your fog lights on for visibility," read the statement.
NTSA also warned motorists against traveling in heavy rain, crossing running water and being alert while driving.
In the advisory, passengers were encouraged to ensure that they have their seat belts on at all times.
NTSA's statement came in line with the weather forecast issued by the Kenya Meteorological Department for the next week.
According to Kenya Met, various parts of the country will experience rainfall with instances of cold weather conditions.
In Nairobi, the minimum weather temperature is projected at 7 degrees with the highest put at 26 degrees. Friday, June 7 was projected to be the coldest.
"Rainfall is expected to continue over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Coast and the Rift Valley. The rest of the country is likely to be generally dry.
"Occasional cold and cloudy conditions are expected over the Highlands East of the Rift Valley as well as over some parts of the South-eastern lowlands and the Highlands West of the Rift Valley," read the statement in part.
