"For the second year, the placement of trainees to the 32 public teacher training colleges will be handled by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), which has opened its online portal for the application," he noted.

While delivering her speech at the same forum, KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Agnes Mercy Wahome stated that the portal would remain open until July 28, 2023.

"This opportunity is for qualified KCSE certificate holders including non-Kenyan citizens who sat the exam in 2022 or earlier until the year 2000," Wahome noted.

The slots in the DPTE programme include 11,358 while 2,081 admission vacant positions are available in the DECTE course.

While addressing the students at Kangaru School, the KUCCPS CEO advised students to align their subject selection while in Form One and Two with careers they wish to pursue in future.

She further advised those in Form Three and Four to consider four key areas when selecting courses in universities and colleges; their areas of strength, passion, job market and salary scale.

Wahome also advised the students to determine their career pathways based on their strengths and performance in various subjects.

Her words were echoed by KUCCPS Board chairman Cyrus Gituai who noted that all students should have a chance to attain higher education, regardless of their performance.
