Second Lady Dorcas Rigathi is determined to revolutionise the rehabilitation of alcohol and drug addicts after an inspiring trip to Israel.
In a statement dated July 20, Pastor Dorcas, also the spouse of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, noted that she travelled to the Holy Land to learn the best practices in rehabilitating and treating alcohol and drug addicts.
She observed that the Asian country had adopted new tactics for fighting the vice, including bench, gardening, group, individual and medical therapy.
“This village concept removes the mentality of enslaving, gives freedom, care, and validates dreams. It also eradicates the fear of failure in the future.
"The world over, we suffer the same things but with partnership and collaboration, we can transform lives,” she stated.
Pastor Dorcas visited Malkishua, the biggest and most established addiction and treatment rehabilitation village at Gilboa's mountain in Israel.
During the intensive visit, she interacted with psychologists, counsellors, professors and doctors with vast experience in the rehabilitation process of addicts.
She also toured Kfar Izun treatment and rehabilitation village, which focuses on young addicts, including bag-packers, and recent immigrants, providing a holistic spiritual approach.
Kfar Izun is located along the coastline, giving the recovering addicts a serene environment to pull through the withdrawal phase and to full recovery, supported by trained and certified staff. They also engage in different sports to boost their physicality and mental wellness.
Earlier, she rolled out the health village project he believes will help the country bolster the rehabilitation of addicts, especially youth.
Kenya's Second Lady explained that the process supports the holistic approach of rehabilitation and reform where the recoverees are taken to a home set-up treatment plan.
“I see there is hope even in our country, and I believe the kind of treatment that is going on here is a holistic kind of a program that addresses the individual in an in-depth way. It is a home where the people who come here go out having been initiated into an independent life.“ she stated at the time.
So far, more than 120 youths are enlisted under the programme.
Gachagua was invited to Israel by the Well-Being International – Global Advisory Group led by Prof. Yossi Harel-Fisch.
