Azimio la Umoja Coalition has claimed that Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka was blocked from leaving his home in an effort to stop him from attending the ongoing nationwide protests.

Speaking to the media on Friday, July 21, National Assembly Minority Leader, Opiyo Wandayi, alleged that the State orchestrated the witchhunt and was out to frustrate other opposition leaders.

According to Wandayi, who also doubles as Ugunja MP, the former Vice President has been in detention for two days since the protests began on Wednesday, July 19.

"All we know is that Kalonzo Musyoka has been detained for the last two days, and has not been able to leave his house," Wandayi told journalists camped outside Kalonzo's Karen home.

"Kalonzo is a national leader of repute, but the government decided to lock and block him from going about his businesses. This is unprecedented," Wandayi, a confidant of former Prime Minister and opposition leader, Raila Odinga, added.

In a bold statement, he accused the State of planning to restrict other opposition leaders from leaving their homes

The coalition vowed to take decisive action against the parties responsible, including legal redress. However, it did not clarify whether it had contacted its lawyers to initiate the process.

Embattled Jubilee Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni  further alleged that a number of Azimio la Umoja allied politicians were still missing or being held without trial.

On Friday morning, July 21, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino was among those who were released from detention. The court ordered him to pay Ksh100,000 bail after he was charged with conspiracy to commit subversive activities.

The whereabouts of Raila Odinga's bodyguard, Morris Ogeta, and his spokesperson, Dennis Onyango, were still unknown by the time of publishing this article.

In line with the recent developments, Kioni rejected the notion that the State detained opposition leaders in anticipation of violence arising from the ongoing countrywide anti-government protests.

"It is now clear that this regime has acquired tactics of the old, but they should know that we will not relent in our quest for a better Kenya," Kioni vehemently insisted that Azimio la Umoja would relentlessly proceed with their quest to hold President Ruto accountable.

Kioni, a former Ndaragwa MP and a close ally of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, also demanded the immediate, unconditional release of all Azimio la Umoja leaders and their associates who were arrested in a crackdown leading to Wednesday, July 19, nationwide protests.

"Azimio la Umoja will in the course of the week share details on the way forward, especially, what the activities that we will undertake going forward, starting next week," Kioni asserted.

Meanwhile, media reports indicated that the Wiper Party, Kalonzo Musyoka, leader met foreign diplomat at his home in Karen, Nairobi.

The diplomats drawn from the United Nations, European Union, the United States, and Denmark, reportedly engaged the leaders in a closed-door session, with the agenda yet to be disclosed.

In a joint statement on Monday, July 17, the foreign envoys urged Raila and his Azimio la Umoja coalition to pursue dialogue to resolve their wrangle with Ruto.

Britain's King Charles III further offered to mediate between the wrangling parties in an effort to restore peace in Kenya.
