Two police officers spent the night of Wednesday, August 2, behind bars after they were arrested in a properly laid trap by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
A report was filed at Juja Police Station, under OB number 107/02/08/2023, indicated that a student from Machakos University (name withheld) was kidnapped by two police officers and their two accomplices.
The incident occurred while the student was driving a rented car along Kenyatta Road in Juja, Kiambu County. The officers, using a white car, strategically blocked the student's vehicle during the abduction.
"Three men armed with a pistol handcuffed him and forced him to take them to his friend's house which he did," read the police statement in part.
"They also handcuffed him (the friend) and took the two to Total Petrol Station in Marurui where they forced them to fuel their vehicle."
First, the abductors transferred Ksh85,000 from the student's phone and an additional Ksh614,255 (USD 4,300) from an online Binance account operated by the two.
"On August 2, 2023, following a tip-off that the said people were going to (the friend's) house again, DCI officers laid a trap and arrested four persons among them two police officers," added the report.
During the arrest, the two officers attached to Kamukuji Police Station were found armed with a Jericho pistol and a pocket phone radio.
The DCI detectives also detained two motor vehicles and launched investigations into the incident.
