Former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday, August 5, paid a courtesy call on Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.

The meeting drew instant speculation due to the political situation in the country and the political tiff between the former Head of State and President William Ruto.

Azimio Coalition, which Uhuru chairs, had warned neighbouring East African countries in July not to arm President William Ruto during the height of the anti-government protests.

In a press statement, Uhuru's office revealed that the former Head of State travelled to Uganda in his capacity as the facilitator of the peace talks in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The former Head of State briefed Museveni on the ongoing peace process in the Central African country.

"The two leaders deliberated on the ongoing peace processes geared towards the realisation of lasting peace and stability in the Eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo" read the statement in part.

Accompanying Uhuru were Ambassador Macharia Kamau, who had served as the Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary during his tenure, as well as Brigadier (Rtd) Elijah Mwanyika and Uganda's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, John Mulimba.

The details of whether Uhuru left the country immediately after the meeting or his arrival in Uganda were not disclosed publicly.

The information about whether the two leaders discussed personal matters relating to Uhuru's family investments in Uganda was also not revealed.

It's worth noting that Uhuru had been appointed as a peace envoy by Ruto after handing over power in 2022, and he has been actively mediating between the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the M23 rebel groups.

Instructively, the meeting took place shortly after the Kenyan government's ban on the importation of milk powder manufactured by a company linked to the Kenyatta family.

Additionally, a document detailing Uhuru's travel plans, indicating a possible trip to the United Kingdom with his family leaked recently, triggering speculation on the former Head of State's next move.
