Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) offices at the Mombasa Port caught fire, sources confirmed on Wednesday.

Firefighters promptly responded to the Authority's officers which are located inside the facility to enhance efficiency for companies working at the KPA to get tax services.

Confirming the incident, a worker stationed at KPA told Kenyans.co.ke that the fire had not been able to spread far due to the fast response.

“It has not expanded to other sections, it only affected a section of the offices,” he revealed.

“No, there have been no casualties reported. Everyone was able to scamper to safety.”

At the time of reporting the cause of the fire was yet to be established.

The KPA has an elaborate firefighting brigade that compliments the Mombasa County firefighting department in keeping the city safe.

The presence of a standby firefighting team at the port facilities was key in making sure that the fire did not quickly spread in the expansive dock.

Casualties due to fire incidents are rare in the port facility as the department routinely carries out fire drills. The port also frequently trains its staff on first aid.

At the time of publishing, the fire had not been completely extinguished and as so could not ascertain the damage done at the KRA offices.

Kenya Ports Authority has several government and private agencies in their location to increase the efficiency of doing business.

Institutions situated at both Mombasa and Nairobi port facilities include Rift Valley Railways, Shipping Agents, Bank, Forwarders, and transporters.
