Kenya's allure as a top-tier tourist destination and its exceptional hotels are widely acknowledged in the world of travel.
Renowned for its distinctive offerings and captivating safaris, Kenyan hotels and destinations have consistently been ranked among the best globally.
In the latest ranking, the Little Governor's Camp, which is tucked in the Masai Mara, was feted for its distinctive guest arrival experience – a charming journey via a fiberglass boat.
The camp featured on a list of five global exotic hotels curated by Euro News, a French-based travel media outlet. This list included Dubai's Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, where guests are welcomed via helicopter arrivals.
Little Governor's Camp, featuring 17 en-suite tents, offers guests a unique opportunity to engage with nature and sight wild animals up close during their visit.
"At Little Governors’ Camp in Nairobi, a 17 en-suite tent escape set around a watering hole in Kenya’s lush Masai Mara, guests’ sense of adventure is engaged from the outset. Arriving at the car park on the reserve side of the river, visitors are helped on board a small fiberglass boat," Euro News noted.
"They’re then hoisted across the water on a brief boat ride courtesy of boatman Bernard, who pulls the barge using a safety line."
The camp which charges between Ksh66,509 to Ksh136,000 per person, has won multiple awards since its establishment in 1976 and has developed into a fun-favourite spot attracting rare reviews from visitors.
All 17 tents are fitted with front decks perfectly positioned for observing the local wildlife that frequents the nearby popular waterhole.
It also boasts spacious tented lounges and a dining area with tiled floors, comfortable sofas and heavy wooden coffee tables.
Staffers at the camp also light a blaze in front of the bar tent to keep the area warm.
For the low season, between April and May, the camp charges Ksh66,509 ($459). In the mid-range seasons – January to March and November to December 15 – as well as June, the charges rise to Ksh91,576 ($632).
In the high season, spanning from July to October, including the Christmas period, the rates reach a peak at Ksh136,000 per person sharing.
In contrast, the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah hotel, also featured on the list, stands out for its iconic helipad, offering a means for the privileged few to arrive via private helicopters.
The hotel's renown is further elevated by its all-suite status and its iconic underwater restaurant. The hotel charges Ksh1,053,239 per 15-minute helicopter ride.
Other hotels that featured on the list were; Six Senses Zighy Bay in Oman, known for its unique paraglide arrivals; The Torridons in Scotland that offers personalised guides; and the Bürgenstock Resort in Lake Lucerne, accessible via a hybrid catamaran.
