Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have launched a manhunt for a suspect who invaded a neighbour's construction site and killed her in broad daylight on Monday.

According to a police report seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the victim was assaulted at her construction site at Nyaga Shopping Centre, Kiambu County, by the fugitive who forcefully gained entry into the premises.

However, he first removed a ladder the construction workers used to climb the building under construction, thus preventing them from rushing to the rescue of their employee.

He then dragged the deceased to a nearby coffee farm as the construction workers watched helplessly from the site.

The suspect, whose divorced wife had recently died, was armed with a kitchen knife with which he stabbed the victim twice before fleeing the scene.

"Police officers from Ngewa Police Station in company of DCI officers from Githunguri rushed to  the scene and established that accused who fled to unknown destination," the statement read in parts.

Police stated that the seemingly angry man stabbed his victim in the abdomen and the neck as the lady pleaded for mercy with her acquaintance.

Eyewitnesses filed a report at Githunguri Police Station and then accompanied police to the crime scene which they cordoned and processed.

At the scene of the crime scene, the detectives collected blood and DNA samples, which were preserved as exhibits that would be used in court as evidence against the suspect.

The officers also recorded statements from the witnesses, including the construction workers who were unable to rescue their employer from the jaws of death.

The body of the victim was ferried to Mukoe Funeral Home awaiting autopsy as friends and relatives of the victim congregated to plan for her funeral.

"Efforts to trace the suspect are under way," police stated, and assured that the suspect would be tracked down, arrested and charged with murder.
