The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested four Tanzanians and a Kenyan at a hideout in Kitengela, Kajiado County over links to the drug trade.

In a statement, DCI reported that the foreigners were in possession of drugs suspected to be cocaine which were concealed to evade detection.

According to DCI, the suspects had packaged the drug into pellets hidden in empty packets of fruit juice.

A Kenyan, believed to be their accomplice, was also arrested and taken in for questioning as law enforcement intensified the war against drugs following drug busts in recent days.

"The five suspects are currently in custody assisting detectives with investigations," DCI reported.

During the raid, detectives also recovered a digital weighing machine, Ksh 35,623 (USD245), Ksh26,100, Ksh582 (Tsh11,000), Indian Rupees, and mobile phones.

DCI also recovered the identification documents belonging to the four suspects.

The DCI has been on the trail of drug rings believed to be operating in Nairobi and neighboring countries.

Early in the week, officers manning a roadblock at Suo Busia County arrested a driver using a hearse to transport 12 sacks of marijuana.

The suspect was stopped by the traffic cops, who noticed the unusual smell prompting them to conduct a search of the vehicle.

Kenyan authorities are also on high alert following reports that Indian detectives have busted drug rings travelling from Nairobi in the past month.

In August, Indian authorities seized Ksh1.2 billion worth of drugs believed to have passed through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
