Families at Farmer's area in Limuru, Kiambu County were left stranded after a fire broke out on the night of Saturday, September 2, burning down several houses.
Videos seen by Kenyans.co.ke, depicted residents' attempting to extinguish the fire before firefighters arrived.
Regrettably, by the time the fire fighters reached the scene, the locals had already incurred losses amounting to millions.
Police were present in the area to deter looting as residents attempted to safeguard their belongings, aiding in the maintenance of law and order.
Limuru MP, John Kiragu, revealed that 24 farming families were displaced and their properties consumed by the fire.
There were no reported casualties during the incident.
"My administration has this morning donated food commodities to the affected families as a fast basic response, to the tragedy. I encourage well-wishers to help the affected," he stated.
Well-wishers rallied alongside the MP to provide essential supplies such as food, clothing, and household items to support the affected families.
The fire is believed to have originated in one house before spreading to neighboring residences, with suspicion pointing towards a cooking gas-related mishap.
The local community has urged both the county and national governments to establish a fund to ensure assistance for those affected by future fires.
Some residents lamented the loss of their livestock, while others conveyed their disappointment over their children's school uniforms and books consumed by the fire.
"I had eight goats, but this is the only one left. I used to sell milk to the locals and earn a living," one resident lamented.
Police are investigating further to establish the cause of the fire.
