Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa today cut down the powers of his Deputy Governor Ayub Savula by removing him from a County Executive Committee Member (CECM) position.
Savula has been serving as CECM Trade Industrialization and Tourism.
He has been replaced with Zaccheaus Muya Lutomia who will assume the position once he has been vetted by Kakamega County Assembly.
The removal of Savula from the CECM position was part of Barasa’s reorganisation of his cabinet to ensure effective service delivery according to the governor.
During the cabinet reshuffle, Bonface Okoth was moved from Head of the Public Service docket to head Education Department in the county.
This was after Godfrey Owori was moved from the Education docket to Public Service and Administration.
Laurence Omuhaka was also affected by the change as he was moved from Public Service Administration to be the new County Secretary and Head of Public Service.
“Please accord them the necessary co-operation to deliver in their new assignments,” a statement from the governor read.
Barasa added that the reshuffle would take effect immediately.
Going forward, Savula as Deputy Governor will be tasked with coordinating all activities in Ministries and Departments.
Savula was yet to comment on the new reshuffle and efforts by Kenyans.co.ke to reach him were unsuccessful.
The Deputy Governor joined ranks with Barasa toward the 2022 general election where he ditched the Amani National Congress to work with the governor who was elected under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.
In September 2022, he explained that he switched camps because he was threatened with being prosecuted over graft should he not join Azimio.
"I was coerced to support Azimio and that is the truth. I decided to persevere because when they jail me and my wives, who will pay the bail," he stated then.
