Citizen TV Doubles NTV & KTN in Geopoll Rankings

Citizen TV has continued dominating the news viewership and doubled its closest competitor according to the latest data by Geopoll, a mobile survey platform.

A survey conducted between Sunday, September 3, and Saturday, September 9, indicated that the Kilimani-based station attracted a viewership of 22.8 million across its shows and news bulletins.

In comparison, NTV which was the closest competitor attracted a viewership of 10.6 million people through its linear TV. 

KTN followed with 9.2 million viewers and its sister station, KTN News, amassed a total of 9.1 million viewers.

Data

The ranking of the top 15 TV outlets across the country showed that TV47, which recently unveiled a new roaster of anchors, made the biggest improvement hitting 6.8 million.

It was the sixth-ranked behind Maisha Magic at 8.4 million viewers.

The station also overtook other competitors among them K24 TV (6.6 million), KBC (6.4 million), Inooro TV (5.3 million) and Ramogi TV (4.3 million).

Towards the end of July, TV47 revamped its team with the hiring of more seasoned anchors to boost its image. They included George Maringa, Grace Kuria, Fred Indimuli and Ahmed Bahaj among others.

Ramogi TV, which is headed by media heavyweight Trevor Ombija, is also a new entrant in the TV broadcasting space with an official launch in November 2021.

Past Data

The latest annual watching trend released in February 2023 by the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) titled State of Kenya's Media in 2022 report, Citizen TV maintained its lead with 36 percent of the market share.

It was followed by KBC  which tied with NTV at 12 percent. Standard Group Limited's KTN Home and KTN News followed with 11 percent and 7 percent respectively. 

Inooro TV was sixth with 6 percent, K24 had a 5 percent viewership while Ramogi TV rounded up the top eight with 3 percent.
