Teachers Service Commission (TSC) on Monday ordered that all field officers on leave resume their duties by October 16.
The communication was made by TSC CEO Nancy Macharia who stated that it was part of the institution's plan in preparation for the national examinations.
Macharia indicated that this was part of measures to ensure the last phase of the preparations for the national examinations were successful.
The field officers will be tasked with monitoring and facilitating the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
Additionally, the field officers will help in the smooth running of the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA).
The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has announced that KCPE and KPSEA will run concurrently.
Rehearsals for the two national exams will start on October 27, with exams starting on Monday, October 30, and ending on Wednesday, November 1.
For KCSE, the examination body announced that the exams will officially start on Thursday, October 10, and end on Friday, November 24.
Assuring parents and students that the exams would run seamlessly, Macharia announced that supervisors, invigilators, and examiners had already been vetted.
“The TSC has vetted a total of 223,223 teachers who will serve as supervisors and invigilators and 37,731 teachers who will serve as examiners for the 2023 national examinations,” Macharia stated.
Macharia was speaking at the launch of the 2023 national examinations season.
The launch was attended by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, Principal Secretaries Belio Kipsang (Basic Education), and Raymond Omollo (Interior Security).
