Former President Mwai Kibaki's engraved Ksh40 coin, identified as KM33 2003 is selling on e-commerce platforms for as high as Ksh3,000 ($20).
The listing of Kenyan Shilling coins is being done by unknown individuals who entirely conduct their businesses on e-commerce platforms such as Ebay.
On Ebay, the lowest price for former President Mwai Kibaki's engraved Ksh40 coin is around Ksh1,500 ($10).
"Randomly picked coins. Years and conditions may vary from good to excellent. The coin will be different from the picture," the product description on Ebay reads.
According to the website, interested buyers can complete payment using various online payment channels including; Paypal, Visa credit card, G-Pay, Master Card and Discover.
The coin is a bimetallic coin, with a copper-nickel center and a brass ring. The coin's head features a portrait of Retired President Kibaki, while the reverse features the Kenyan coat of arms and the denomination of the coin.
The Mwai Kibaki engraved Ksh40 coin was issued by the Central Bank of Kenya in 2003 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Kenya's independence.
It is a popular coin among collectors, and its value is likely to increase over time due to various grades from good to very fine on Ebay.
