A suspect who has been extorting money from members of the public while posing as a National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer was arrested.
In a statement by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the suspect had been on the run for six months but was caught by detectives in Umoja 3 Estate, Nairobi.
He was processed at EACC Integrity Centre Police Station and detained at Kilimani Police Station pending arraignment.
Until his arrest, he had defied EACC summons, prompting the commission to look for him.
He is accused of conning unsuspecting members, promising them to secure employment at government agencies.
In a particular instance, he received Ksh150,000 from a senior public official after promising the wife employment at the National Intelligence Service (NIS).
According to EACC, the suspect was arraigned in Milimani Chief Magistrate’s court on Thursday and denied the charges.
The court subsequently released him on a bond of Ksh300,000 with a surety of the same amount or a cash bail of Ksh200,000.
"He is suspected of being among criminals increasingly taking advantage of unemployed Kenyans and extorting money in the pretext that they have “powerful connections” through which they could secure employment opportunities for their targets," he said.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) concurred with the recommendations of EACC to prosecute him.
